Things You Really Need To Know
Oil Content
Although oil content is important, it really means very little without more information. Most fuel manufacturers, including , will tell you the overall oil content listed as a percentage of volume. This figure by itself is irrelevant. When it comes to oil, you really need to know three things in order to determine whether the overall oil/content is adequate:
- The quality and specifications of the oil used.
- The viscosity of the oil used. Generally speaking, the lower the viscosity the more oil you need to do the same job, given that the other lubricating qualities are equal. Remember that viscosity is how thin or thick the oil itself is. Low viscosity oils -- when blended -- make our glow engines much easier to tune and burn cleaner but at a cost of requiring more oil.
- The actual oil content.
At we give you all three things you need to know to make an informed decision of which fuel is best for your application. For oil technical data please visit our specs page.
Additives
For the most part, reputable fuel manufacturers use common additives in their blends. These are things like anti-foaming agents, rust inhibitors, detergents, and pressure additives. Some of us even now use fragrance additives which have been added to ’s 2006 blends.
The important additive we have introduced in all our Xtreme blends is the new XP-7. This new addition works to greatly reduce cylinder head temperatures. Our tests show that it works very effectively with cylinder head temperature reductions averaging 25%! The only downside of this additive is its cost.
Colour
Over the last few years, we have experimented with various colour dyes in our fuel. We’ve found that some consumers mistakenly think that if the same blend is a slightly different colour it’s a sign of inconsistency. This is far from true. All dyes fade over time and vary by UV exposure. They add nothing to the quality of the product and are simply used for identification and cosmetic value.
We have decided to put our time and effort into things that really matter and have returned to our standard red-colour fuel for all blends. Red dye is the most stable and is added at our request to all our new oil at the Klotz facility.
